California Governor Gavin Newsome signed a bill, titled the Crown Act, into law banning discrimination against black students and employees over their natural hairstyles. The new law takes effect Jan. 1, 2020


Why it Matters:

A poll commissioned by Dove found that black women are 80% more likely to change their natural hair to meet social norms or expectations at work. The study all so found, that Black women were 30% more likely to receive a formal grooming policy in the workplace at both the application and orientation phase. Federal courts typically recognize Afros as a hairstyle that is protected under anti-discrimination laws.

Last year an African-American high school wrestler from New Jersey was forced at the match to cut his dreadlocks or forfeit the match.

Missing Person Found:

Yesterday, around 2:00 p.m., missing Long Beach teenager Kylexia Newman was found by her family in Los Angeles. 


Recap:

The 16-yearold was last seen the morning of June 16th and believed to have been in Compton, when she left her home without telling anyone.

The Suspect:

The Long Beach Police Department in search of a suspect wanted for a series of armed robberies in Long Beach. the suspect has been descried as a male, between the age of 18 to 20-years-old.


The Robberies:

According to a press release from L.B.P.D, in all three occurrences, the suspect would enter a restaurant, make a food order and during the conversation with the cashier the suspect would pull a gun out and request money.


All of the armed robberies transpired at restaurants at the below locations:

  • March 22, 2019 - 1000 block of East PCH

  • May 20, 2019 - 1000 block of East PCH

  • June 3, 2019 - 2000 block of East PCH
