What We Know So Far:

LBPD is investigating an officer-involved shooting, that occurred sometime around 9 pm, at a liquor store located at the intersection of Atlantic Ave and Market Street, which concluded with the police shooting and killing the suspect in an exchange of gunfire.

  • According to the LBPD, the suspect, identified only as a 22-year-old Long Beach resident armed with a shotgun, shot two people at two separate locations

  • At some point during the altercation with the police, the suspect was struck by an LBPD police cruiser, after the suspect fired two shots at the police car, per ABC 7 News.

  • One of the victims was shot several times at a nearby Popeyes and is in critical condition at a nearby hospital.

  • This is the second officer-involved shooting this week.

LBPD is investigating the murder of a 23-year-old man, who was shot multiple times in a parked car early Tuesday morning on the 6200 block of White Avenue in North Long Beach.

  • LBPD has identified the deceased victim as Tyree Latrell Coleman, a Long Beach resident. The second person in the car with Coleman was not injured during the shooting and drove Coleman to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

  • According to investigators, the two victims were parked when another car advanced from the side and fired into the victims’ car.

  • The exact motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. However, a light-colored vehicle was seen leaving near the scene of the shooting, heading west on Harcourt Avenue from White Avenue.

In the first officer-involved shooting of the year, L.B.P.D officers shot and killed a male suspect, who they say fired at least one shot at the officers.


The incident occurred Sunday night at roughly 10:10 pm while LBPD officers were operating on the 900 block of East 19th Street in Central Long Beach.

  • According to LBPD, the suspect fled police on foot after "several de-escalation attempts" from officers, but the suspect was "uncooperative".

  • At one point, officers used a taser to subdue the suspect but it wasn't effective.

  • During the altercation, police say the suspected "brandished a firearm toward one of the officers" and fired "at least one shot". The police responded back with gunfire killing the unidentified suspect.

  • No police officers were injured during the incident and the investigation is ongoing.

  • The LBPD has confirmed an officer-involved shooting did occur this Sunday night at approximately 10:10 pm in the area of 20th and MLK.

  • LBPD Homicide Detectives will conduct an investigation as will the Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office.
