19-year-old man charged with murder in the death of a Bellflower man
Santiago Rivera was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder for the April 22 death of Jimmy Ray Hawkins Jr, the LBPD announced Monday.
The state of play:
Hawkins, a 47-year-old Bellflower resident, and an unnamed female victim both sustained gunshot wounds to their upper body while seated in a parked car when two suspects approached them in a light-colored sedan and opened fire.
Hawkins died at the scene and the female victim survived.
LBPD says they found “incriminating evidence” linking Rivera to the shooting, but didn’t provide details as to what that might be.
The LBPD believes the motive could be gang-related and Rivera is currently being held on a $6 million bail.
