35-year-old Long Beach city employee charged with sexually assaulting a child

An employee from Long Beach's Department of Financial Management was arrested Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl almost ten years ago, the police department announced.

The suspect is 35-year-old Long Beach resident Paul Skelly has been with the City's Department of Financial Management for the past 13-years. There is a Linkedin account under the suspect's name with the job title of "Mechanic for the City of Long Beach."
Police initiated the investigation into Skelly in January when the victim came forward with her story that a "family acquaintance" sexually abused her as a child ten years ago.
Skelly was arrested at his workplace at 2600 N. Temple Avenue at 3:45 p.m. and will be suspended without pay pending the investigation's outcome, police said.
Skelly was booked on one felony charge of sexual abuse involving a minor and is being held on $100,000 bail. Detectives believe there may be additional victims who were acquainted with Skelly.
