38-year-old man dies after vehicle strikes him while crossing the street in West LB

A 38-year-old male pedestrian died Wednesday after he was struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing a street in the area of Judson Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway in West Long Beach, authorities said.

According to detectives, the driver, a 36-year-old female Long Beach resident, was going east on Pacific Coast Highway in her 2013 Dodge when she hit the pedestrian who was in the roadway and outside of a crosswalk.
Police were dispatched to the scene at roughly 8:00 a.m. When they arrived, they located the injured pedestrian and the driver several blocks away.
Long Beach Fire provided medical aid to the male pedestrian and then transported him to a nearby hospital in stable but critical condition.
Police determined the driver was not impaired or distracted at the time of the collision. The driver has a valid driver’s license, cooperated with the investigation, and was released from the scene.
The pedestrian has been identified as 38-year-old David Cryster-Weller, a resident of Riverside.
