A Car Crash on Bellflower Blvd & 7th Leaves One Man Dead

A 24-year old Long Beach resident died in the early Thursday morning in a single-car crash after he lost control of his Dodge Charger and crashing into a fire hydrant and street sign.


According to the police, the incident occurred sometime near 2:06 a.m., when the driver, later identified as 24-year-old David Shelton Jr. from Long Beach, was driving at a high rate of speed on Bellflower Blvd when he "hit a dip in the road" as he crossed onto E. 7th Street he lost control of his car, leaving behind a 225+ feet of skid marks and crashing into a fire hydrant and shopping center sign.

  • Shelton, who was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, died at the scene and it is unknown if alcohol, drugs or his phone was a factor in the crash.
