A carjacking suspect caused a standoff in Lynwood; incident not linked to LASD shooting
L.A County Sheriffs engaged in an hourslong standoff with a carjacking suspect in Lynwood, ending in a car chase in Orange County.
36-year-old Deonte Murry is accused of carjacking and possibly shooting a man in the leg, near the 500 block of Essey Avenue in Compton, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Boese said in a press briefing.
The police chase went through the 91 Freeway in North Long Beach, to the 710, 405, and 605 freeways, ending with the suspect surrendering near the intersection of Orangethorpe Avenue and Valley View Street in Buena Park.
During the chase, the driver exited his car and let a passenger out of the car, she was quickly apprehended by law enforcement. The passenger told the police that the suspect was armed with a weapon.
The suspect is not connected to the recent shooting of two LA Sheriffs' deputies.
