According to the Long Beach Police Department, a 23-year-old man is under arrest for allegedly being involved in the human trafficking of a 17-year-old girl and kidnapping her baby.
Long Beach Police officers were called to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Hill Street on the night of July 28, at about 8:17 p.m., in response to a "dispute call”. When police arrived they talked with a 17-year-old girl "who they believed was a victim of human trafficking."
Police would later discover that the 17-year-old's baby was taken by the suspect without her consent and was seeking a ransom for the infant.
The LBPD's Night Vice Investigation Unit took over the case and was able to reunite the infant with their mother later that night.
The suspect was identified as Antonio Lettmen, a 23-year-old Los Angeles resident, who was arrested in a vehicle near his LA home.
A search warrant was issued for Lettmen's vehicle, where investigators found a semi-automatic firearm and "additional evidence pertaining to the human trafficking of the 17-year-old minor."
On August 3, 2021, Lettmen was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for commercially sex trafficking a minor with violence, kidnapping for ransom, and ex-felon in possession of a firearm. Lettmen's bail was set at is $2,035,000 bail.
