A suspectd smuggling boat runs aground in Long Beach

A boat potentially smuggling people into the United States washed ashore in Long Beach Sunday, launching an investigation by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Driving the news:

Authorities believe the 25-foot boat came ashore before 12:30 a.m. Sunday landing on Alamitos Beach.

  • Roughly 15 people were seen fleeing away from the ship in various directions, per multiple news outlets.

  • A CBP spokesperson told the Post the vessel is “consistent with signs of a successful human smuggling event from Mexico.”

  • No arrest has been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
