After FedEx departs, Southwest Airlines claims their flight slot

Southwest's footprint at Long Beach airport expands as the airline claims FedEx's old slot, bumping the low-cost carrier's presence to 35.

FedEx relinquished their slots in September after more than 30-years at Long Beach Airport. Due to the economic fallout by the pandemic, the airport implemented a flight slot moratorium last year, allowing airlines to avoid the minimum flight slot utilization requirement, according to the LB Post.

  • Last year JetBlue left Long Beach Airport over yearning to conducting international flights, vacating its 17 slots to Southwest.
