California has paid $50 billion in unemployment since March

California has paid $50 billion in unemployment benefits since March, the California Employment Development Department announced Thursday.
But wait there's more:
In the previous week, the E.D.D dished out $4.1 billion in unemployment benefits and has processed 8.7 million claims in the last 4 ½ months.
The extra $600 in unemployment benefits provided by the federal government, known as Pandemic Additional Compensation, is set to expire this week.
A total of 1.4 million Americans filed jobless claims last week, Dept. of Labor announced.
