City blames “error” for long lines on the state's COVID appointment program
Long Beach offered an explanation for Monday's log jam of traffic that wrapped around the Convention center, placing blame on an error with the state's MyTurn Covid vaccine appointment system, per the LBP.
City spokesperson Jennifer Rice Epstein told the Post that the cause of the chaotic congestion resulted from overbooking by the MyTurn COVID appointment service.
Some people who were scheduled to be vaccinated left the line due to the prolonged wait times.
The LA Times reported that the appointment system had "flaws have been exploited by wealthy, privileged people to use redistributed access codes to secure appointments for vaccines that had been intended for people living in underserved communities."
