East Long Beach Police Shooting: what we know so far

The Long Beach Police Department launched an investigation after one of their officers shot a man who they claim was armed with a knife Friday morning in East Long Beach, per multiple reports.

Details: The incident took place after officers responded at 8:20 a.m., to a parked car near Los Coyotes Diagonal near Woodruff Avenue regarding a person armed with a knife. However, when officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the man was holding a gun.

  • The department says, after numerous tries to mitigate the situation. At least one cop shot the man, striking him in his upper torso.

  • Fox 11 reported the suspect was sent to the hospital; his medical status remains unknown.
