First known Long Beach case of Omicron variant detected, LB Health Dept says

The first known Long Beach-area case of the Omicron variant was detected Monday, the Long Beach Health Department announced Tuesday.

I Wanna Be Sedated:

The infected individual, who is fully vaccinated, recently traveled internationally and returned to the states on Nov. 29.

  • Health officials say the patient is asymptomatic but has mild symptoms and is currently self-isolating.

  • In a press release issued on Nov. 30., the Long Beach Health Department said, "new variants would continue to evolve as long as there are large proportions of unvaccinated people."

  • The Health Department didn’t mention if the patient obtained a Covid booster shot.

Remember when:

The first confirmed case of the Omicron variant in the US was detected last week in the San Francisco Bay area.

  • WHO says omicron has been detected in 38 countries and that this version of Covid-19 is more contagious than the delta variant, per CNBC.
