Homeless man arrested after stabbing a unhoused man to death in Downtown LB
A homeless man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of another homeless man that occurred on the Promenade in Downtown Long Beach in October, police announced.
Charles Ray Jones, a 44-year-old homeless man, was taken into custody Thursday morning near the First Street transit terminal, a stone's throw away from the crime scene.
41-year-old Nilton Cardoso died from multiple stab wounds to his upper body from what police called a sharp metal object.
Police believe Jones and Cardoso had a dispute that escalated into a stabbing. Jones's bail was set at $2 million.
