LB City Council OK'ed Purchase of Hotel for Homeless Housing
On Tuesday, Nov. 17, the Long Beach City Council approved the purchase of the Best Western in Central Long Beach to be converted into housing for people experiencing homelessness.
The council purchased the property for $21.7 million using funds from the state's Project Homekey program. The City's staff anticipate closing escrow by Dec. 18 and ready to accept people in early 2021.
The site is the former home of the Best Western of Long Beach, located at 1725 Long Beach Blvd, containing 102 units.
Project Homekey is a statewide initiative that buys motels, hotels, or apartment buildings and converts them into permanent or temporary housing for the homeless.
The soon to be former Best Western is Long Beach's third converted hotel.
