LB COVID19 Update: LB Parks Dept. employee tested positive; 63 New Cases, & 2 New Deaths


What's New:

Long Beach officials announced, a Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine employee has tested positive for the coronavirus, the employee works in the Marine Bureau and is recuperating at home in self-isolation.

  • 54 people have been hospitalized for the virus

  • Two long-term care facility residents have died due to coronavirus complications; both were men, one patient was in his 60's and the other was in his 70's.

  • City officials say the reason behind the sharp increase of cases recently is due to a delay of results from a private lab that was contracted by L.A County. These lab results date back as far as April 1.


Where things stand as of 5/14:

  • Total confirmed cases as of 1:30 p.m: 1,157

  • 51 fatalities 

  • 54 people hospitalized 

  • Approximately 730 recoveries (recovery data is self-reported.)
