LB Health Dept reports 14 new COVID-linked deaths
Long Beach health officials announced 14 additional coronavirus-related fatalities on Friday as the city lifts mask requirements for events, the LB Post reports.
Why it matters:
The Long Beach Health Department changed its health orders regarding its mask requirements for outdoor youth sports and mega-events earlier this week. The updated health orders won't require children participating in outdoor youth sports to wear a facemask and lower the limit for indoor mask mandates for mega-events from 1,000 to 10,000 attendees.
The city has confirmed at least one covid-related fatality a day since Jan.18., according to the Post.
Long Beach's positivity rate dropped to 5.4 percent, and 812 confirmed new cases.
Los Angeles County Health Department reported that the death rate among people experiencing homelessness who were infected with COVID has "decreased by more than four-fold this winter surge" compared to last year.
Long Beach health officials say that if cases continue with their current trajectory, they will suspend the mask mandate.
