LB Police arrest suspect in the fatal shooting of a man in Central Long Beach
A 43-year-old man was taken into custody Saturday, accused of murdering a man in Central Long Beach Friday afternoon.
The Long Beach Police Department announced the arrest of Ernesto Contreras, a 43-year-old resident of Long Beach.
Contreras was detained in his vehicle in the 800 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue. He faces one count of murder and is currently being held in the Long Beach City Jail on a $2,000,000 bail.
On Friday, June 19th, police were dispatched to the 1000 block of East Anaheim Street after receiving an emergency call. While on their way to the scene, they were alerted that the victim was transported to a nearby hospital.
The victim would later succumb to his injuries while he was receiving medical attention.
According to authorities, through the investigation, police say the victim and the suspect exchanged a few words before the suspect pulled out a pistol and shot the victim. The suspect was last spotted on foot fleeing the scene.
