LB Renters Rights Activist Angered By Proposed Changes to the Tenant Relocation Ordinance.

What Happened:

On Friday, Council-member Al Austin provided a proposal, supported by council-member's Supernaw, Richardson, and Mungo, that would make dramatic alterations to the Tenant Relocation Ordinance.

Austin's proposals would:

  • Exempt owners who have two 4-unit properties.

  • Instead of the landlord providing moving cost to tenants, landlords would provide 180 day advance notice to vacate.

  • Provide exceptions for condominium owners who rent their units and basically push back the start date from August 1st 2019 to early 2020.

Here's the Memorandum:

Let's Recap:

The Tenant Relocation Ordinance, which passed in May and is set to go into effect on August 1st, provides tenants with moving expenses pay for by the landlord, if their rent rises by 10% within a year.
