LBCC to offer $300 in vouchers to entice students to get vaccinated.

Unvaccinated students who obtain two Moderna or Pfizer vaccination shots or one Johnson & Johnson vaccine shot between August 2, and August 30 are eligible for a $300 voucher at the student store, Long Beach City College announced.

Why it matters:

Last week, Long Beach City College joined the California State University system in requiring all faculty, staff, and students who use campus facilities to provide proof of being immunized against the Coronavirus.

  • LBCC will be using $1 million from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funding to finance the program.

  • Students electing to take online classes will not be required to prove vaccination or take a COVID test.

What they're saying:

“The average age of our Long Beach City College students happens to be within the same age range that the Delta variant is affecting the unvaccinated,” said Long Beach Community College District Interim Superintendent-President Dr. Mike Muñoz.
