Multiple firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire in the Washington neighborhood of Long Beach on Tuesday afternoon.

When fire units arrived at the scene, at roughly 2:40 p.m. on the 200 block of East. 10th Street, they came upon an empty single-story commercial building with plumes of smoke spouting through the roof.

  • On their Twitter page, LBFD says that shortly after engaging the blaze, units on the roof were pulled due to "conditions."

  • Firefighters searched the building, and some units remained at the scene to assist with the investigation.

  • LBFD says even though the building was vacant at the time of the blaze, there were indications that persons experiencing homelessness occupied the structure.
