LBPD searches for suspect of hit-and-run crash that killed father & 3-year old daughter

Long Beach Police are searching for a man who they say is responsible for the fatal hit-and-run that killed a 42-year-old man and his 3-year-old daughter, as per the LBPD.


According to the police, on the night of March 1st, 24-year-old Long Beach resident Octavio Montano Islas reportedly left the Bottoms Up Taven, allegedly driving a Ram pick-up truck heading "northbound on Rose Avenue at a high rate of speed." At about 10 p.m, Islas supposedly crashed into an apartment building on the 6600 block of Rose Avenue, killing tenants Jose Palacios Gonzalez and his daughter Samantha Palacios.

  • A GoFundMe account was created to support the family with funeral expenses.

A Person of Interest:

Islas allegedly ditched the truck after the crash and fled on foot; his whereabouts are currently unknown at this hour.

  • The LA County District Attorney's office has issued a warrant for Islas for two counts of felony DUI and one count of hit and run.

  • Islas was described as a Hispanic male about 5'8 in height and weighing about 160 lbs. He has black hair and has tattoos on his right forearm.

  • There have been multiple reports that Islas was a customer at the North Long Beach dive bar the Bottoms up before the crash.
