Long Beach man dies 9 days after being found unconscious and supposedly beaten
Long Beach police say a 61-year-old man has died 9 days after being found unconscious with serious head injuries near Stern Street in Los Altos on Aug.15.
James McManus spent the last nine days inside the ICU at Long Beach Memorial Hospital after departing from Avenue 3 Pizza alone at about 10:00 p.m. on the night of Aug. 14th. McManus was later found at 4:46 a.m., with multiple injures, according to a press release by the LBPD.
Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances that led to McManus's untimely death.
McManus's wristwatch was not on his person when his body was discovered on a service road near Sterns Street and Carfax Ave in East Long Beach.
The Post reported that MacManus was found with "trauma to the front and back of his head," plus multiple contusions.
Where things stand:
Police asked residents in the area to review their home or business camera from Aug. 14, 2021, at 10:00 p.m. and Aug. 15, 2021, at 4:46 a.m. for any photo or video footage of the incident.
The Post reported that the LA County Coroner's office is waiting for information from the hospital treating McManus.
Police combed the area where McManus was found multiple times, according to the press release.
The family has created a GoFundMe account to help pay for medical expenses.
