Long Beach Marathon: what to expect

The Long Beach Marathon returns Sunday, October 10, after a year-long delay due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Here's what to expect:
🚧Road Closures: Unless otherwise stated, most road closures and detours will be in effect at various times on a rotating basis between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. The closures usually affect both sides of the roadway.
🏃♂️ The marathon starts at 6:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m., with 10,000 runners expected to attend over the weekend.
This year's marathon will be the 37th edition and is considered far smaller compared to the 2019 race.
🏃♀️The 26.2-mile marathon starts on Shoreline Drive, travels across the Queens Way Bridge near the Queen Mary, comes back to Downtown Long Beach, then heads east on Ocean Boulevard, with a quick swing through Belmont Shore. Runners will then go northeast to loop around Cal State Long Beach and then return to Downtown.
🏃♀️The half marathon runners turn back when they reach Belmont Shore.
💉Participants must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test.
