Long Beach reports 1st city employee to die from Covid; Plus 14 new deaths
City officials announced Friday 14 residents, including an employee in the Recreation Bureau in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, has died from coronavirus-related complications.
The employee's identity wasn't released to the public due to "privacy concerns," but the city did say the employee was with the Recreation Bureau for the past five years and last worked on Dec. 28.
The announcement of 14 additional coronavirus-related fatalities brings the city's death toll rises to 520.
Long Beach officials have reported its deadliest week so far in the struggle against the coronavirus pandemic. At least 73 residents have died from coronavirus in just this week alone.

Mayor Robert Garcia said, “It breaks my heart to lose a member of our City family, and we are keeping their loved ones in our hearts today.”
City Manager Tom Modica said, “We are all feeling the loss of this employee, who dedicated themselves to making the City of Long Beach a better place,” Mr. Modica would go on to say, “I am grateful for their dedication and service to Long Beach, and my heart goes out to their family and friends.”
