Man killed in shooting in North Long Beach

A man is dead after an alleged verbal dispute turned violent in North Long Beach, LBPD announced Tuesday.


The shooting occurred on the 400 block of South Street at roughly noon; when police arrived at the scene, they came upon a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. LBPD says Long Beach Fire Department took life-saving measures, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital, but he would later die.

  • According to LBPD homicide detectives, the initial findings are that the victim got into a "verbal dispute, and that dispute led to a physical fight, which escalated into a shooting. At this time, no suspect information is available, and the motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related."

  • The victim is being revealed as an adult male in his 20s. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner will work to identify the victim and notify the next of kin.
