NCAA grants another year of eligibility for fall sport student-athletes.
The NCAA announced Friday; they have authorized an additional year of eligibility for all fall sport student-athletes and an extra year to complete it as all fall sports except for football have been moved to spring 2021.
Why it matters:
Earlier this month, the NCAA has postponed all fall championships, excluding football, leaving those decisions to postpone or cancel to their respected football programs to conferences and schools.
The Big Ten and Pac-12 postpone their fall sports program to the spring, per CBS News.
Football players from the Pac-12 published an open letter threatening to opt-out of the 2020 season if their list of demands regarding social justice and safety concerns weren't meet.
According to the director of Los Angeles County's public health department, at least eight players on the UCLA football team tested positive for coronavirus.
What they're saying:
"We want to provide opportunities for student-athletes whenever possible," said acting board chair Denise Trauth, president of Texas State. "We understand it will be complicated and different, and we're not certain how it will look. But we believe it's important to try to give students that championship experience."
