Gov.Newsom orders all Californians must wear a mask while in public spaces
California Governor Gavin Newsom ordered all Californians to wear face coverings when they are in "high-risk situations" or while in the public like going to the hospital, shopping, and public transit.
Children age two years or under are exempt from wearing masks. These very young children must not wear masks because of the risk of suffocation.
Persons with a medical condition, mental health condition, or disability that prevents wearing a face covering are exempt and persons who have a difficulty hearing are also exempt.
Why it matters:
Last week, Orange County health officials rescinded its heath order regarding wearing masks while it public, after OC Health Agency's director Dr. Nichole Quick resigned due to public pressure and hostility from county supervisors.
Newsom didn't address how the new requirement will be enforced or if Californians who violate the order will be subject to citations or other penalties, per L.A Times.
Nine California counties have reported new outbreaks of COVID-19, including L.A County, per The Guardian.
The C.D.C is predicting 16,000 deaths in the next three weeks, per CNN.
