Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Motorcycle on Stearns Street

Police say a 76-year-old man died when a motorcyclist collided with him in the Los Altos neighborhood of Long Beach Tuesday night.
Details:
The collision occurred at roughly 6:20 p.m. when a 23-yer-old motorcyclist headed west on Stern Street, at what police described as “a high rate of speed,” when he struck a 76-year-old man as he crossed in an unmarked crosswalk. Both the driver and the elderly victim are Long Beach residents.
The motorcyclist remained at the scene and withstood injuries from the collision. He was transported to a nearby hospital.
Police say, “alcohol, drugs, and distracted driving are not believed to have been a factor in the collision,” and that the pedestrian would later die from his injuries at the hospital.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and notify the next-of-kin.
