Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Motorcycle on Stearns Street

Police say a 76-year-old man died when a motorcyclist collided with him in the Los Altos neighborhood of Long Beach Tuesday night.

The collision occurred at roughly 6:20 p.m. when a 23-yer-old motorcyclist headed west on Stern Street, at what police described as “a high rate of speed,” when he struck a 76-year-old man as he crossed in an unmarked crosswalk. Both the driver and the elderly victim are Long Beach residents.

  • The motorcyclist remained at the scene and withstood injuries from the collision. He was transported to a nearby hospital.

  • Police say, “alcohol, drugs, and distracted driving are not believed to have been a factor in the collision,” and that the pedestrian would later die from his injuries at the hospital.

  • The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and notify the next-of-kin.
