Police identify man fatally shot by LBPD officers Saturday night
The man who was fatally shot by multiple Long Beach police officers Saturday evening has been identified as Anthony Loia, 26, a resident of Corona.
According to LBP, Loia was in Long Beach that fateful day to visit his two children.
LBPD officers shot and killed an armed suspect Saturday night in the Washington neighborhood of Long Beach, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched at roughly 9:15 p.m. to the area of Magnolia Ave and 14th Street after multiple emergency calls regarding a person with a gun. When the officers arrived, they spotted the suspect walking northbound and “brandishing his firearm.”
According to the press release, the officers “gave multiple commands” to the suspect to drop his gun, but the suspect refused, and “an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
LBFD provided medical attention but determined the suspect died at the scene, and police recovered a gun.
Five officers were involved in the shooting, and none of the officers sustained any injuries.
The initial findings:
Police stated that the suspect was walking and pointing his gun at multiple cars and at least four people. The identity of the suspect is being withheld from the public until the next of kin is notified.
All of the police officers involved were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting, and the LBPD says they’re “in the process of reviewing the footage.”
