Former LBPD police officer accidentally shot himself with a handgun while in a gas station on 3000 block of Bellflower Blvd Friday night, per the LBPD.

Details:

Retired LBPD officer Jeffery Garcia, age 54, who is under investigation for making alleged threats towards journalist and activist Shaun King, accidentally shot himself with a concealed weapon striking a "lower extremity".

  • Police were dispatched at 7:30 p.m

  • Garcia was transported to a nearby hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.

  • No one else was hurt or injured during the incident police say.

Catch up quick:

Journalist and activist Shaun King wrote a Medium post on Thursday that members of a private Facebook group consisting of active and retired police officers were "openly plotting and planning my assassination." One of the members was retired Long Beach Police officer Jeffery Garcia who wrote, "I am ready to rock and roll — let's get it going boys and girls. Time for a #6." which, according to King, is a "long-distance operation". Another retired Long Beach Police Officer Laura Tartaglione replies with, "organize it Jeff." Garcia then responds, "Roger that Laura."
