Shooting Near 14th Street Park Leaves One Man Dead
A 23-year-old Long Beach resident has died Friday night after being shot near 14th Street park days earlier.
At roughly 5:00 pm Wednesday, LBPD officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Chestnut Ave after receiving reports of gunfire. When police arrived at the scene, they found one man with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. A few visitors at the park performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, but, due to the severity of his wounds, died Friday night.
The victim has been identified as Jose Rodriguez, a 23-year-old resident of Long Beach.
The initial finding from the investigation discovered that Rodriguez was in the park when two unknown suspects approached him and began shooting.
Investigators believe the suspects then fled the park eastbound towards Chestnut Ave. At this time, the motive for the shooting is currently unknown. However, the incident is being investigated as gang-related.
