Signal Hill police fatally shoot man near Sunnyside Cemetery

Signal Hill police fatally shot a man who allegedly stabbed a man near a Food4Less on Willow Street, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says.
Details:
SHPD officers were called to the Food4Less supermarket on the 1600 block of East Willow Street before 1 p.m. due to reports of a stabbing near the market's loading dock, per LBP.
Witness told the arriving officers the suspect fled the scene heading west on Willow Street.
An officer reached the suspect and attempted to apprehend him, but he ignored the officer and continued to walk away.
SHPD press release says the suspect was carrying a knife and "attacked the officer," at which time the officer shot the suspect.
Where things stand:
The shooting occurred near Sunnyside Cemetery on the 1000 block of Willow Street; Signal Hill police said the suspect was shot once in the upper body, but A witness says he heard six shots. The suspect would later die at the hospital.
Police say a large knife was recovered at the scene and that the stabbing incident does not appear to be gang-related.
The stabbing victim at the grocery store suffered a wound to his upper torso and he was transported to a local hospital. The victim remains in fair condition, SHPD says.
