Street Sweeping Ticket Forgiveness Program Extended Till Nov 30th
The City of Long Beach has lengthened its street sweeping citation forgiveness program till November 30th; the program was set to expire on October 31st.
The program was created in reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns to provide economic relief to people who were encouraged to stay home to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
What they're saying:
Rick Lopez, Director of Public Works, wrote a memo to the Mayor and Councilmembers that "street sweeping is a critical public health and safety function." Director Lopez added that street sweeping does function "as a source control mechanism by removing litter and waste that would otherwise make its way into the storm drain system and eventually to the ocean." However, Lopez still prescribes to extend the street sweeping citation forgiveness program until the end of November.
