The USNS Mercy Hospital ship has departed from the Port of LA/Long Beach this Friday and return to San Diego after a seven-week deployment, the Governor's Office of Emergency Services says.

The hospital ship arrived on March 27th and treated 77 patients during its deployment.

  • The USNS Mercy's medical personnel will remain in the Greater Los Angeles area to support California’s response efforts.

  • The Mercy did not treat COVID-19 patients. Rather, the hospital ship provided medical care to other patients suffering from other non-COVID related aliments says Business Insider.

  • Several members of the USNS Mercy's medical staff contracted the coronavirus.
