Woman charged with negligent discharge of a firearm at a burglar

A 66-year-old woman who thought her home was being burglarized, inducing her to fire a gun inside the house, was later arrested by Long Beach Police on suspicion of negligently discharging a firearm, police say.


Police were dispatched to the 700 block of East 15th Street at 5:00 a.m. Thursday in regards to a potential shooting.

  • According to police, the woman told the arriving officers that she believed that an intruder was breaking into her home and reacted by firing a gun.

  • Police didn’t find evidence that a break-in occurred and arrested the woman for discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.

  • No one was injured, and the woman was arrested released from custody on a $0 bail.
