UPDATE: Identity released of a woman found dead near Alamitos Beach, LBPD says

Long Beach Police Department has identified the body found near a bike path on Alamitos Beach as 28-year-old Genesis Rivera.

The body of a woman in her 30's was discovered in Alamitos Beach, LBPD announced.


What we know:

At about 8:03 a.m., officers responded to a bike path near the 1900 block of East Ocean Boulevard after the discovery of a dead body lying near a building, Long Beach Police Department officials said in a news release.

  • Police described the departed as a woman in her thirties and that "due to the suspicious location of the body and lack of explanation for her death," her death is being investigated by homicide detectives.

  • The Los Angeles County medical examiner will determine the cause of death and notify the next of kin.
